Student coaching focuses on skills like study strategies, exam technique, time management, and confidence, not just subject content. We look holistically at a student's approach to their education and learning, The goal is long-term academic independence rather than helping specific subject areas.
-
We support secondary school students (Grades 8–12) and university students across British Columbia, Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
-
Yes, we work with all students regardless of their academic success. Often, even the high achieving students still have areas to work on in their learning.
-
We offer one to one online sessions for 50 minutes. Sessions are personalized, focusing on the needs of the student. Initial sessions assess the strengths and needs of the learner. We then create actionable plans with strategies and resources to work on during and between sessions.

I am certified to teach in British Columbia by the Teacher Regulation Branch. Also, I currently teach grades 8-12 within the province. My approach focuses on using proven, evidence based strategies with real world classroom experience. The best learning approaches apply to all learners.
-
This depends on the needs of the learner. Some highly effective learners may only need three or four sessions to embed a few tweaks. I have worked with other students on a regular basis for a full academic year.
-
Yes. There won’t be essays or anything time consuming. However, we’re trying to make big changes to our approach to learning. Students are given information sheets with easy tasks to complete during and between sessions. Students can then work on embedding those new skills in the week or two between appointments.
-
Some learners do make immediate progress in easy to fix areas - maybe a new organisational structure for study notes. However, some changes, such as mindset, attitudes, or imbedding new study habits take place over time. Student coaching is about making fundamental, holistic long term changes to a learners education.
-
Typically once per week or every two weeks depending on the learners needs. Sometimes this can be more frequent during high stress times - such as prior to exams.
-
Depending on the needs of the learner, some sessions may also involve parents. Regular progress updates are provided so parents understand the work required between sessions, learning goals and improvement plans.
-
We do not offer any subject specific tutoring. I am trained as a history teacher, and taught GCSE and A-Level History and Politics for a decade. I have specialised in essay writing skills, analyzing and critiquing arguments and constructing judgements. The skills offered by Invicta apply across all subjects and disciplines.
-
The cost of student coaching reflects the level of training and real world classroom experience that many tutors cannot offer. As a school leader, I have guided cohorts of hundreds of students through their national standardized exams. I have seen and worked with all types of learners, from the very highest achievers to those who are putting in minimal efforts. I regularly update my practice, borrowing from the latest research in pedagogy and cognitive and non-cognitive science.
